Dick Johnson

Dick Johnson has more than 30 years of experience as a trial lawyer in Central Washington. Representing citizens in both small and complex litigation, he has tried more than 150 jury trials in Washington’s state and federal courts. Dick has earned a reputation as a trial lawyer who fights for his clients. He is rated “AV” by Martindale Hubbell, the highest possible rating for a lawyer, based upon both legal performance and ethics.
Dick has settled multiple cases against insurance companies and negligent health-care providers for more than $1 million. He is considered an expert in automobile and insurance matters. Johnson has served on the court rules and procedures committees for both the Washington Association of Justice and the Washington State Bar Association. He as handled more than 30 cases before the Washington Court of Appeals, where he has won important rulings in the areas of insurance bad faith and employment discrimination. Johnson has argued five cases before the Washington Supreme Court, and five cases before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Dick’s roots in Eastern Washington run deep. He was raised on a wheat and cattle ranch in Whitman County where, as he puts it, he “started working a man’s job at age 12.” He received a bachelor’s degree from Washington State University in 1971, and graduated cum laude from Gonzaga University School of Law, in 1975. He served as a Military Police Corps officer in the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged in 1979.
Dick has been a passionate advocate for youth sports in Yakima. He served as both a football and baseball coach for 15 years. He is the past president of the Yakima Valley Grid Kids Association and the past secretary–treasurer of Yakima Youth Baseball, the sponsoring organization for American Legion Baseball in Yakima. Dick was also a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Yakima Valley Sports Commission.
Dick has been married to his wife Janet since 1976. They have three grown sons, and two grandchildren.
